The 2JZ-powered dragster of Brian Fitzpatrick Racing has broken the 5-second, quarter-mile barrier and there's a lot more where that came from.
Brian Fitzpatrick has long been gunning for the import quarter-mile record behind the wheel of his 2JZ-powered, and Lucas Oil–sponsored, dragster. At last weekend’s Import Face Off in Bakersfield, California, he made a major stride toward that goal, with a 5.87-second pass– making him the fastest, import-powered dragster in the world.
Providing the power for that record is a Toyota 2JZ engine based on a Mazworx billet block and a billet cylinder head from Xtreme Cylinder heads.The usually-3.0L engine has been stroked to 3.2L with a Sonny Bryant billet crankshaft and a set of custom JE pistons.
The 2JZ receives pressurized atmosphere by a massive, 98mm Garrett GTX5533R turbocharger. Boost comes in at healthy 60psi, but the snail is capable of a jaw-dropping 90-100psi–a number the team will creep up toward as they further dial in the combination. Boost Is funneled through a huge intercooler, rated to support 3,000 horsepower, and into a Plazmaman billet intake manifold. Fuel is provided by a set of Moran atomizer injectors.
There seems to be quite a bit left in Fitzpatrick's combo and we're excited to see what the team will do in the coming season.
